London’s long and rich history means there are several locations you can visit to find out about the city under attack. Of course, most of the reviews on the blog concern pieces of fiction, but there have been times when the city has been under attack or faced extreme danger.
London Museum
Currently based in East London, this museum takes you through the many eras of London. It will give you a solid foundation of the city and take you through the attacks on the city.
The Monument
1666 was the year of the Great Fire of London, and this monument was designed by Sir Christopher Wren and Dr Robert Hooke to mark that event. You can use a spiral staircase to climb the 202-foot tower. The position of which is 202 feet away from the starting point of the fire on Pudding Lane.
On September 2nd, a fire in a bakery oven was not properly extinguished, which set alight the King’s baker’s wooden home. The fire would burn for four days and destroy almost 500 acres of the city, including St Paul Cathedral. Although there are six recorded deaths from the event, historians believe the number of deaths was much higher.
The Imperial War Museum
The Blitz was a sustained bombing campaign conducted by Nazi Germany against the United Kingdom during World War II, lasting from September 7, 1940, to May 11, 1941. It primarily targeted major cities, especially London, with the aim of damaging British morale and disrupting war production.
This museum is an excellent source of information on the impact of the Blitz on London.
National COVID Memorial Wall
Many post-apocalyptic books deal with global pandemic events, so remembering the deaths caused by COVID-19 is important. This memorial opposite the UK parliament building serves as a reminder to politicians of their role in planning for such disasters.
The Tower Of London
As this website is named after the ravens that live at the Tower of London, it would be a great injustice not to mention it. The Tower has only been breached once, during the Peasants’ Revolt of 1381.
